Pioneers in Environmental Protection and Oil Spill Response
Established in the late 1970s, DESMI Ro-Clean began as a division of DESMI specializing in the manufacture of equipment to combat oil spills at sea. By the mid-1980s, a partnership with Roulunds Factories (A.P. Moller Maersk) led to the creation of "Oilchem Recovery Denmark". This joint venture, in collaboration with the Danish Environment Agency, played a critical role in cleaning the beaches of Saudi Arabia in 1991 after the Gulf War. In 1996, this collaboration evolved into Ro-Clean DESMI A/S, with a focused commitment to producing state-of-the-art full range of oil spill response equipment, including the famous RO-BOOMs, DESMI skimmers, power packs and OSR vessels.
Throughout its history, DESMI's equipment has been instrumental in managing numerous global oil spills, notably:
- Deepwater Horizon, Gulf of Mexico in 2010
- Exxon Valdez, Alaska in 1989
- Komi Usinsk, Russia, 1994
- MT Haven, Italy 1991
- Sea Empress UK, 1996
- Baltic Carrier, Denmark, 2001
In 2008, the acquisition of Applied Fabric Technologies Inc. (AFTI) in the USA marked a strategic expansion, enhancing our presence in North America. The following years saw further growth with the establishment of DESMI Ro-Clean Latinoamerica in 2009 and the opening of our Middle East office in Abu Dhabi in 2010.
Ro-Clean is dedicated to the development, manufacturing, and sales of equipment not only for Oil Spill Response (OSR) but also for the collection of waste and plastic, and the removal of seaweed. Initiated in response to major oil spills in the 1980s and subsequent environmental legislation, our business has continuously adapted to address new environmental challenges. In 2015 and 2017, we expanded our focus to include solutions for seaweed management and the global plastic crisis with our EnviRo-Care initiative, targeting pollution in drains, rivers, lakes, and coastal areas.
Today, our product solutions encompass proven technology, booms and skimmers for the containment and removal of various pollutants, serving a diverse clientele including oil companies, coast guards, ports, rig operators, and government institutions. Our EnviRo-Care customers are primarily governments, while our seaweed removal technologies benefit hotels and public agencies, particularly in the Caribbean.
